Belinda Hansen: Founder of Canadianhomeworker.com
Belinda
Hansen is the founder of this Web site and is a long time homeworker. She began
her career as host of Global Television's Kidsbeat program in the late 1980s
and then moved on to CFTO as a reporter for Eye on Toronto and the News.
In 1997, she put a hold on her career to take care of her father who suffered a stroke. He also lives with Belinda, along with her two young children. Needless to say, she is a busy woman!
Knowing that she would have to stay at home for an indefinite period, she began to source out work that she could do from her home. Her many ventures included freelance writing, hosting and voiceover stints, as well as volunteer work with her local school and with various charities. She serves as Vice Chair for the Parent Council of her oldest son's school.
It wasn't until the year 2000 when she found a more regular source of income with a human resources Web site that moved into her area. Working for it has significantly changed her ideals about working from home.
In fact, the idea for creating a Web site for other home-based workers came about as a result of her own search for gainful home-based employment.
It was very rare to find legitimate work from Canadian companies. Most seemed too conservative to even consider any proposals. The United States, however, seems to have adopted telework with greater ease than our national companies. So, that left babysitting, multi-level marketing schemes and other moneymaking scams as the most prominent options for homeworkers.
Belinda felt there was a need to market the legitimate jobs and weed out the many scams out there today. On her site, you'll find links that clearly explain the so-called money making opportunities.
Ultimately, her goal is to create a National Home-Based Talent List so that others will have an easier time of obtaining legitimate job offers, perhaps gain a few new friends and maybe, just maybe, convince some Canadian companies to hop onto the bandwagon!
